KISS Drummer: TOMMY THAYER Is Doing A Great Job

KISS drummer Peter Criss has told the San Antonio Express-News that Ace Frehley's replacement, Tommy Thayer, is handling amazingly well the difficult task of playing the parts of the group's original guitarist on the band's current tour.

"He's really doing a great job," Criss said of Thayer. "I'm up there with him every night and I watch him, and if anyone's going to do the Ace man, this guy's really got it down. Sometimes I close my eyes and it sounds like Ace at certain parts of the night. No one I ever heard got that close to (Ace). The fans seem to be accepting it. Not all of them, because I get a lot of e-mail on my site and it's not all good, but there is some good too."

Criss knows what it's like to be the topic of heated debate. On a recent tour of Australia and Japan, fans flipped out when Criss' cat makeup and drum throne were briefly handed over to Eric Singer after another rift with the bosses.

"So many people come and go in this band," Criss said. "They decided to put (Singer) up there in my makeup and I don't think the fans liked it. I think the shows were already booked and I guess (Simmons and Stanley) were cornered and had no other choice. I'm a really straight shooter. I'm too old for this (bickering). I know where I stand in this crazy planet that we live on. All that stuff is meaningless." Read more.
